The olive arrived in Galicia with the Romans, but the Catholic Monarchs ordered the destruction of olive trees in order to economically favour some regions over others. Only in tiny, remote areas (Quiroga and Valdeorras, mainly) was the destruction avoided, and thus local production and the small-scale sale of oil was able to continue.
Olei emerged from the desire to recover these ancient olive trees and a 6,000 sq metre experimental farm in the Parque Tecnolóxico in Galicia.
Olei, a Premium olive oil, aimed at the Gourmet sector of the market, comes from the native olive of the regions of Quiroga, Valdeorras and Xinzo de Limia.
