The beginnings of Bodegas Terras Gauda first appeared in 1990 with the founding of Viñedos do Rosal S.A. and Adegas das Eiras S.A. That same year, with grapes from local grape-growing members, 37,000 bottles of Terras Guada were produced from its first harvest. At the same time its own vineyards were being planted with the aim of safeguarding the identity of the O Rosal wine. The philosophy of the winery was that Albariño, a noble varietal on its own, could have a wider dimension if added to other, always native, varietals, thus giving new nuances and further enhancing the prestige of O Rosal wines.
Today Bodegas Terras Gauda SA produces about a million and half bottles, under the Rías Baixas Appellation of Origin, and its numerous products are present in over forty international markets.
From the outset, the winery has believed in R+D+I as a differentiating element for the creation of wines of outstanding singularity and quality from noble varietals grown in optimum conditions and according to the region’s traditional methods.
With its enthusiasm to show the particular characteristics of varietals and regions, and to diversify rather than concentrating on a single product, Terras Guadas has expanded, as a group, to other winemaking areas such as Bierzo, with its Pittacum project, and the famous “Golden Mile” in the Ribera del Duero with its investment in the Quinta Sardonia, a property where winemaking is carried out within a biodynamic framework. In 2007 it also entered the artisanal food preserving sector, with the purchase of Conservas A Rosaleira.
